Handy hand-me-down tips.

Babies breeze through clothes faster than Paris Hilton through men. Before you even have time to rip the tags off that designer dress from your baby shower, your little one has somehow blown right past the size range altogether.

In honor of Spring (and the adorable clothes that come along with it!), I thought it timely to give some tips on organizing, storing, and getting rid of items no longer in use…at least until the next family member makes their debut.

When to Evaluate
Unless you’re the real Super Mom, weeding out the unusables each time you do laundry is simply unrealistic. For us normal folk, shooting for twice a year – or once each season – will do just fine. The seasons come with a natural reminder when it’s time to break out the sweaters or dig up the shorts. So make it easy on yourself and just tackle it when the weather demands.

What to Keep
There’s more to it than black and white, “keep” and “toss”. If you have a heart or plan to continue growing your family, there’s also “donate” and “hand-me-down”.

  • Keep anything your baby still wears or will still fit into by next season.
  • Toss everything that is stained, torn, or pilled. Nobody wants to be the smelly kid in class. *Tip* To give stained clothes a fighting chance, sprinkle some baking soda on the stain, then pour a small amount of club soda on the powder. Careful not to go overboard. Remember the volcano experiment from elementary school? Gently rub the mixture in with an old toothbrush.
  • Set aside anything that is still in top shape but no longer fits your baby. These will come in handy as handy-me-downs for your next kiddo.
  • Finally, start a pile of items that are in excess of what you need or that you have multiples of. Donating these will feel good to you, and even better to the lucky little one who truly needs them.
How to Organize
You can slice and dice the hand-me-down pile many different ways. You could organize by gender, size, age, or season, for example. There’s no right way, so just pick whichever method works best for you, but be consistent.

How to Store
Once you’ve decided on a method for separating the hand-me-downs for storage, find some sort of containers to keep things tidy and safe from bugs and mold. Large plastic bins are great if you have a lot of storage space, but vacuum-seal space bags are ideal if you’re cramped. They can even slide right under the crib or bed.

The last step is to devise some sort of labeling system so you know what’s what. The last thing you want to do is dig when it’s time to resurrect the reusables.

Buy 3 WubbaNubs or Angel Dear blankies, save $3!

Buy 3 WubbaNub Pacifiers or Angel Dear Blankies, Save $3!If only I had a buck for every call I’ve taken from a frantic mother whose kiddo just flushed his WubbaNub down the toilet or left his beloved Angel Dear blankie at the store.

I’ve pretty much heard it all. But my all-time favorite was a desperate mama who cut the ears off of her older daughter’s bunny blankie to fool her youngest into thinking it was his duckie. Oh the horror! And oh the things we’ll do to quell disaster when it strikes at 3:00 in the morning.

Having a backup is smart, but maybe not smart enough. Backing up your backup is genius! And we want to make it easier (and cheaper) for you to do so.

Buy any three of the same style WubbaNub pacifier or Angel Dear blankie, and save $3.00 at checkout!

This is not a limited-time promotion, and no coupon is required. It’s just another way for us to try and make your life easier and to reward you for being such a smarty pants.

NEW Jack and Lily leather baby shoes!

Spring has certainly sprung, and tulips aren’t the only thing I’m giddy to see sprouting up around me. I certainly love my tall boots, but nary a tear will be shed when I pack them up to make room for sandals this season.

Last week we previewed the latest spring baby clothes (in case you missed them, check out the goods from Zutano here), and now we have a handful of new shoes from Jack and Lily to complete the look!

You already know and love the “Original” collection of soft-soled baby shoes with its cast of fuzzy critters adorning each pair. They are soft, lighweight, and perfect for pre walkers and those first big steps.

But now Jack and Lily has created the “My Shoes” collection, a slightly sturdier group with cushioned soles and ankle protection for new walkers.

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the two to help you decide which is best for your little pea:

Spring Break Baby Travel Gear

Spring Break. Two words that any student loves to hear. Beaches, skiing or going on a cruise, Spring Break is the perfect time for families to regroup before the last stretch into Summer begins.

However, traveling with babies and getting to your chosen destination, organized and collected, can be quite a trial. Little ones require so many things when traveling. From breastfeeding tools to diapers, you need the right gear to take you from home to holiday.

DwellBaby has travel gear essentials that can help even the most unorganized get it together for a week long jaunt. Coated canvas and waterpoof lining make every travel piece practical, while the patterns and shapes make them stylish. Bottle bags, small and large travel cases and diaper totes are all expertly designed to hold all the odds and ends.

Make your Spring Break journey a good one this year and be prepared with the right gear.

Neutral Gifts for a Mystery Baby

Its one of life’s true great surprises; finding out the sex of your baby. I am one of those people who cannot wait to know whether a boy or girl is entering the world. But, many of my friends wait until the big day to find out.

Mystery sex babies are very hard to shop for. And, we all know Grandma’s and Papa’s don’t like to wait until the birth day to start showering their grandbabies with gifts. Luckily, there are many options that will stock baby’s nursery without using too much green and yellow.
