Layering your little for chilly weather.

Brrrr…was my first thought when I woke up this morning. The temperature in the house read 72, not too bad, but outside it was a brisk 55 degrees. Fall rolled through central Texas like a freight train yesterday and with it brought up the thought, how will I dress my baby for the cool mornings and warmer afternoon?

If you are a J.Crew fan, you know all about layering. Their New England style clothing always has layered looks that make me want Fall weather all year round. A sweater with a bathing suit, who gets to do that? I’m sure fat-free models need the coverage even in Summer, but when you think about it, layering is the perfect technique for babies and tots, too.

Find the right brand of baby clothing and layering is a cinch. Zutano, one of my favorites, makes cool baby clothes for little ones from cute onesies to cotton cardigans. And since most of their separates are cotton, it is easy to layer your baby for any temperature.

How do you start? Easy. Think of your little as a J.Crew model, beautiful and wonderfully styled. Start with the base layer, a great onesie or t-shirt. Then, cover the legs. Leggings, a staple in Lillie’s wardrobe or pants work great. Add a unique baby sock for the tootsies, try Trumpette socks, they actually stay on little ones feet. Finally, a cardigan or long sleeve tee completes your layers. Now, if you live in Montana or Michigan, you may consider using BabyLegs on top of your legging or pant. These amazing little leg warmers are perfect for extra chilly places.

Layering really is a mom’s best bet for Fall. As you are running about town each piece can be removed as the temperature warms up. Imagine pulling off layers like a little artichoke. Keep going until you reach the squishy part in the middle!
